Where does mortgage fraud come from?

The source of mortgage fraud is sometimes a real estate agent who promises sellers to sell the house within 180 days or buy it at a guaranteed price. Sellers who accept such an offer may be more likely to agree to have their home listed through that particular real estate agent.

Dual representation = incentive to commit mortgage fraud

The real estate agent, in turn, enters into agreements with buyers who have good credit scores but insufficient cash on hand. The real estate agents pledge to help with the purchase in an under-the-table equity sharing scheme. The buyer, eager to own a home, agrees, setting the stage for the real estate agent to earn a commission when the deal closes.
